Pastel Creations ZA was founded by Linah Oock in 2018 during her time at Rhodes University, where she was pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree. With a lifelong passion for design and creativity, Linah saw an opportunity to channel her talents into event planning. The business, originally known as Oock Designs, started as a way to generate income and pursue what she believed was her true calling: design.
Linah’s journey into event planning was shaped by her deep desire to study architecture. Despite facing challenges in securing a place to study architecture, she embraced her Bachelor of Arts degree while keeping her dream of design alive. The initial iteration of the business had to be paused due to academic demands, as Linah was determined to complete her degree in record time, which she successfully did in 2019.
After returning home to Alexandra, where she lived with her grandmother, Linah relaunched her business under its current name, Pastel Creations ZA. The circumstances were challenging, but her resilience and passion fueled the growth of the business. What started as a small venture has blossomed into a meaningful source of income, allowing Linah to support her family while doing what she loves.
Today, Pastel Creations ZA remains a small yet impactful entity, bringing joy and awe to clients through its designs. Linah’s vision for the business is to grow steadily and sustainably, guided by the Afrikaans saying, “Betjie betjie maak meer” (“Little by little makes more”). Her dedication to her craft and her clients is matched by her excitement to create job opportunities in the township of Alexandra, where she grew up.
Having been equipped with invaluable skills and lessons from her time at the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls, Linah is committed to making a difference in her community and the world at large – one design at a time.
